At 92 years old mom was miserable in her home all alone. It was a nice place to live but she was very lonely, wasn’t eating right and fell a couple of time. Things got so bad that she was eventually hospitalized and wound up in The Jewish Home for 6 weeks rehabilitation. It was obvious that she could not go back home. Then I found Esplanade, it’s only 5 minutes from my home, we brought her to see it and moved her in a week later.
In the 15 months she has been at Esplanade she has been happy and I have been happy. She has friends, a regular routine, regular meals, and help if she needs it, the alarm pendant she carries gives both of us piece of mind.
She takes advantage of many of the activities, she takes Yoga almost every day, exercises in “Golden Slippers”, she does flower arranging and crafts, she volunteers in the Country Store one hour a week, and she attends concerts a couple times a week.
She takes trips offered by the Esplanade, she’s been to places I have not such as “back stage at the Metropolitan Opera”, the “September 11 Memorial” and goes to movies more than I do. The nice thing about the activities that are offered is that she can get involved in as many, or as few, as she feels that she wants to. The staff and the health aides are friendly, caring and helpful, (she loves her aides).
In short, her life is so much better, her health and happiness have improved.
